IGBMC

RECRUITMENT

IGBMC is one of the leading European centres in biomedical research. It is devoted to the study of higher eukaryotes genome and to the control of genetic expression as well as the functional analysis of genes and proteins. This knowledge is applied to studies of human pathologies.

Post-Doctoral Position To Study Rna Decay In The Context Of Cancer, Séraphin Lab

Reference : IGBMC-POD-43

The applicant will benefit from a highly collaborative and international environment at IGBMC (>700 researchers, 4 departments, 44 teams). The Séraphin team is a leader in the field of eukaryotic RNA decay, RNA processing and protein complex analyses using mammalian and yeast model systems. IGBMC provides access to state-of-the-art platforms and technical support including imaging, proteomic, high throughput sequencing, cell culture, bioinformatics, and mouse facilities. The project will benefit from technical support and develop in the framework of national collaborations. IGBMC is located in the periphery of Strasbourg providing a scientifically and culturally rich and unique environment.

Assignments

The Séraphin team working on protein complexes involved in RNA decay is hiring a post-doc (24 months with possibility of extension) to work onthe Exploration of the role of RNA decay in cancer

Activities

The importance of mRNA decay in regulating and finely tuning gene expression is now well established. Recent evidences link defects in RNA decay with human cancer such as in the mutations of DIS3, encoding a catalytic subunit of the nuclear exosome complex involved in the degradation of RNA, in multiple myeloma.

The project, developed as part of a multidisciplinary consortium, will investigate the impact of mutations in defined RNA decay factors in cancer. Based on genetic and genomic information, as well as clinical and epidemiological data, the successful candidate will develop and analyze animal models to study therole of RNA decay in cancer. Molecular and cellular analyses will be performed using cutting-edge technologies including transcriptome analyses, cell and tissue phenotyping, proteomic, and imaging… and build on medical data collected in parallel by partner teams. This project will determine whether alterations in some RNA decay factors have an impact on the prognosis of patients, which could justify specific treatment. Moreover, a better understanding of the role of such alterations could thus have repercussions in other types of cancer.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced candidate with strong expertise in use of animal model for the study of cancer. Additional experience in transcriptomics and genome-wide data analyses would be a plus. Ability to work independently within a team environment, computer literacy and good communication skills are required. Applications are invited for 2 years with possibilities of extensions, starting at the earliest in October, 2021.
