- Summary of her research work:
My PhD thesis focuses on the impact of DYRK1A gene dosage imbalance on the development of cortical interneurons in two pathological contexts: trisomy 21 and DYRK1A syndrome. Using mouse models, immunohistochemical analyses, and live imaging, we demonstrated that DYRK1A plays an essential role in the development of the cortical GABAergic system. Our results show that interneuron proliferation, differentiation, and tangential migration depend on both the dosage and kinase activity of DYRK1A. We also demonstrated its involvement in actomyosin cytoskeleton remodeling during neuronal migration. These findings highlight the importance of precise DYRK1A dosage for the proper development of cortical interneurons.
- Skills acquired at the IGBMC:
At the beginning of my PhD, I saw research as a way of finding answers to scientific questions. Over time, I realized that perhaps the most important part lies elsewhere: learning to ask the right questions and developing a rigorous approach to try to answer them. Working in neuroscience also taught me a great deal about patience and humility. The further I progressed in my research, the more I became aware of the extraordinary complexity of the brain and of how much there is still to understand. Each result provided part of the answer, but often raised new questions. Ultimately, what I take away most from these years is that research is not simply about accumulating knowledge. It is a way of approaching the unknown with curiosity, rigor, and an open mind. And if I had to sum up this experience in one sentence, I would say that in science, every answer is often the starting point for a new question.
- Life at the IGBMC:
I particularly appreciated the richness of the scientific environment at IGBMC, with highly stimulating multidisciplinary exchanges. I also greatly appreciated the quality of the platforms and equipment, which allow us to carry out our projects under excellent conditions. Finally, what I will remember most is the spirit of collaboration and mutual support within the institute, as well as the quality of the human interactions, which made these years a truly enriching experience.
