The gut-immune-brain axis in Parkinson disease

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is increasingly recognized as a systemic disorder in which pathology may arise in peripheral organs and spread to the brain. Our laboratory studies how the immune system shapes this process along the gut–immune–brain axis. We use experimental models of synucleinopathy, immune profiling and spatial approaches to define how peripheral immune responses contribute to disease progression and whether these pathways offer opportunities for earlier intervention.
