From in vivo models to molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration
Neurodegenerative diseases involve complex alterations in cellular homeostasis that progressively compromise neuronal function and survival. Understanding the molecular mechanisms that connect protein dysregulation, cellular stress and neuronal vulnerability remains a major challenge. In particular, ubiquitin-dependent processes and nuclear homeostasis are emerging as important regulators of neuronal function and disease progression. Exploring the interplay between these mechanisms may provide new insights into the molecular basis of neurodegeneration and identify pathways that could be targeted for therapeutic intervention.
