Les Anges de Passage support breast cancer research
On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the association Les Anges de Passage, based in Lutterbach near Mulhouse, presented a check for €5,000 to Daniel Metzger’s team, in the presence of Léa Bouhelier, a PhD student at the IGBMC.
This amount will support a research project dedicated to breast cancer, aiming to better understand the disease and develop new therapeutic approaches.
Created in memory of Céline Mesquita, Les Anges de Passage focuses its work on four main areas:
Supporting children and adults undergoing treatment by making their hospital stay more pleasant through activities, gifts, supportive care, and comforting equipment.
Funding research.
Promoting prevention.
We warmly thank Les Anges de Passage for their commitment and generosity, which provide our researchers with additional resources to advance science in the service of patients.

Breast Cancer in France: Where Do We Stand?
Breast cancer is the most common and deadliest cancer among women. However, thanks to advances in treatment and screening, mortality rates are declining every year, and survival rates remain high: 88% at 5 years and 76% at 10 years.
61,214 new cases in 2023
12,757 deaths in 2022
Median age at diagnosis: 64 years
60% of cancers detected at an early stage
80% of cases occur after age 50
Why Early Detection Makes All the Difference
When detected early, breast cancer is easier to treat and causes fewer long-term effects. For women aged 50 to 74, it is recommended to have a mammogram every two years. Women at higher risk benefit from a specific monitoring plan.
Prevention is Action
Limiting alcohol consumption, staying physically active, maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, and eating a balanced diet all help reduce the risk. It is estimated that one-third of cases could be prevented each year.
