Estrogen Receptor ERα: From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapeutic Modulation in Women's Health
The EstER team is dedicated to promote women's health by unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying estrogen signaling, with a particular focus on the actions of estrogen receptor (ER)α, the primary receptor mediating estrogen effects. Over the past 20 years, our team has been a pioneer in understanding the molecular actions of the ERα receptor at both the membrane and nuclear levels. By integrating cutting-edge molecular biology techniques, original and unique transgenic models, pharmacological tools, we aim to optimize ERα selective modulation to maximize therapeutic benefits while minimizing associated risks. We will summarize these findings, focusing on the mode of actions of Estetrol, a new fetal estrogen developed for contraception and on the tamoxifen, used for breast cancer treatment.
