Master & internships

An internship at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) offers the opportunity to get into contact with cutting-edge research at one of Europe’s leading centres for life sciences and provides insights into what it means to be a scientist.

Research and therefore internship topics at IGBMC include genetics, genomics, epigenetics, cell biology, developmental biology, structural biology, neuroscience, bioinformatics and systems biology.

Securing an internship position

While Master thesis internship positions will often be advertised to students of the University of Strasbourg, competitive candidates for all types of internships (including M2) are encouraged to contact team leaders including a CV and motivation letter to inquire about potential openings.

Contact should be established early, especially in cases of internships of more than 2 months that require additional processing time.

Possibilities for continuation after master internships

The IGBMC is highly interested in recruiting competitive master interns for follow-up PhD positions.

Students will thus have the option to receive further presentation training by the members of the hosting team’s department to be well prepared for thesis defense and fellowship applications. Students applying for PhD fellowship positions via the University of Strasbourg Doctoral School Competition will receive a further round of training organized on the institute level to optimally prepare them for the selection process.

Student Life and Community

The IGBMC hosts a vibrant community of early-career researchers. The Student & Postdoc Board (SPB) contributes to student life at the institute by helping new arrivals integrate into the community and by organizing scientific, networking and social activities throughout the year
