Eukaryotic mRNA decay

In eukaryotes, mRNA decay is intimately associated with translation. The latter process relies on specific marks to be efficient, namely the 5’ mRNA cap and the 3’ poly(A) tail. These characteristic modifications that delimits full mRNAs become ultimately the targets of the mRNA decay machinery. We are investigating how mRNA decay factors interact and/or interfere with the translation apparatus and how RNA modifications affect translation.
