Congratulations to Liliia Nurullina for the acceptance of her thesis! Her work was directed by Marat Yusupov and titled: " Insights into the structural organization of the avian 80S ribosome from Gallus gallus".

Credits: Théo Brisset

During her thesis, Liliia Nurullina successfully detailed the structure of avian 80S ribosome from cold-treated chicken embryos. The PhD student achieved an analysis at 2.4Å resolution via single-particle cryo-EM. This work has allowed them to identify the specific features of expansion segments of avian 28S ribosomal RNA. It also shows that the mechanism of translation inhibition by binding of SERBP1 and eEF2 proteins to the ribosome is structurally similar for avian and mammalian species.

During her time at the IGBMC, the Liliia Nurullina has acquired crucial skills in structural biology, such as cryo-EM data analysis, model building and refinement as well as in biochemistry.

Thanks to the different platforms for their support in this work ! Thanks to our Cryo-EM platform for their constant help in preparing grids (Corinne Crucifix), and to the Dubochet Center for Imaging for their assistance with cryo-EM data collection and analysis (Alexander Myasnikov)

Liliia Nurullina will now be looking for a new opportunity in structural biology.
